I love what AARP does. This is the next step.

AARP Fraud Watch is wonderful. So is the free class at the Sun City West library. So is the AZ Attorney General's office. If you've been to one of those sessions, you've already done the smart thing.

But here's what I noticed sitting in those audiences: people leave with great general knowledge — and the same scary computer they came in with.

What I do is the next step. After you know what scams look like, I help you make your computer, your email, and your habits scam-proof. Together. With me on the other end of an email when something feels off.

The free programs are the textbook. I'm the tutor.

How to spot a scam before you click.

These five warning signs show up in almost every scam targeting seniors. Learn them once — use them forever.

1

Urgent! Act Now!

Real companies don't rush you.

2

Phone # in Pop-Up

That number goes to a scammer.

3

Asks for Gift Cards

No real company ever will.

4

"Computer Infected"

The pop-up IS the virus.

5

Just Feels "Off"

Trust your gut. Ask Pete.

When in doubt — reach out: [email protected]

Print it. Tape it next to your computer. Share it with a friend.

Watch from your favorite chair.

Pause whenever you need to. Rewind whenever you want. No tests. Everything is designed so you can go at your own speed.

"Before Pete I was scared to open my email. Now I open it like a grown-up."

— Sun City Resident

I spent 20 years behind a counter.
Now I'm behind a keyboard.

I ran a personalized gift shop for two decades — engraving, embroidery, the works. I know what good service feels like, because I had to deliver it every day.

Now I'm retired in Sun City. But I kept noticing the same problem with my neighbors: they were getting frustrated, embarrassed, and sometimes scammed.

So I built this. Plain-English guides and short videos that treat you like the smart adult you are.

After 20 years in retail, I know what good service feels like.

No runaround. No tech-speak. No upsells. Just what you need, explained clearly, with me on the other end of an email when something comes up.

100% Money-Back Guarantee

Email me within 30 days and I'll refund you. No quiz, no guilt trip. I'd rather have your trust than your $79.

You can email me anytime

I answer every email myself — usually the same day. No call centers. No "press 1 for English."

Scam Watch · Arizona

Know what they're doing
before they call you.

These are the scams hitting seniors in Arizona right now. Read this page, share it, and keep coming back — it's updated regularly.

The ones happening right now.

Scam #1

The "Your Computer Has a Virus" Call

Someone calls saying they're from Microsoft, Apple, or your internet provider. They're not. No real tech company calls you out of the blue. Hang up. Never give anyone remote access to your computer.

Scam #2

IRS and Social Security Threats

They claim you owe back taxes or your Social Security is suspended. The IRS contacts you by mail first — always. Social Security doesn't threaten benefits over the phone. Hang up.

Scam #3

The Online Investment or Crypto Scam

Someone promises incredible returns. They may show you a website where your "money is growing." This is exactly what happened to Pete and Sharon — a devastating loss that nobody warned them about. By the time you try to withdraw, the money is gone.

Scam #4

The Grandchild Emergency

"Grandma, it's me — I'm in trouble, don't tell Mom and Dad." They know your grandchild's name. Hang up and call your family directly at a number you already have. Never wire money or buy gift cards first.

Scam #5

You've Won a Prize — Just Pay the Fee

Real prizes don't require upfront payment. Real sweepstakes don't need your Social Security number. If you have to pay to receive it, it's a scam.

Scam #6

The Suspicious Link in Your Email

An email from your bank, Amazon, or Medicare says there's a problem — click here. Don't. Go directly to that company's real website by typing it yourself, or call the number on the back of your card.

Print these. Put them on the fridge.

Medicare will never call you asking for personal information.
The IRS always contacts you by mail first — never by phone threatening arrest.
No legitimate person or business ever asks for payment by gift card. Ever.
Real tech support doesn't cold-call you. Not Microsoft. Not Apple.
If they need you to act "right now" — slow down. That urgency is the weapon.
If something feels wrong, trust it. Call someone before you do anything.

Do these four things.

Step 1 — Stop. Don't click, don't call back, don't send money or gift cards.

Step 2 — Call someone you trust. A family member or neighbor. Tell them what happened before you do anything else.

Step 3 — Report it. FTC: 1-877-382-4357. Or email Pete at [email protected]

Step 4 — Don't be embarrassed. This happened to Pete and Sharon. It happens to sharp, careful people every single day. You are not alone.

New scams show up every month.

Pete Miller

Pete Miller · Sun City, AZ

Built from lived experience.

15 Years in Drugstore Management

Operations, people, and systems — self-taught, as always. Learning to manage complexity without a manual.

5 Years with the National Guard — NICI

Traveling to Panama, Hawaii, and across the U.S. — turning complex information into 40-hour training programs that real people could understand. That skill never left.

20 Years Running a Business with Sharon

Engraving, embroidery, a snack bar, a second store, bankruptcy, two moves — and never quitting once. They sold one item at their first flea market. They came back.

The Loss That Became a Mission

Pete and Sharon suffered a devastating financial loss to a scammer. Nobody warned them. Nobody was in their corner. That became the fuel — and this website is the result. "I want to be the person that nobody was for us."

Nobody else does this from the inside.

The tech industry builds for youth. Tutorials assume you already know things. Support is fast, impersonal, and frustrating. And predators specifically target the confusion that results.

  • He's been scammed — he knows the shame and the loss firsthand
  • He spent 5 years teaching complex topics to everyday people
  • He's a senior navigating this technology himself right now
  • He never rushes, never talks down, never upsells
  • He answers every email himself, usually the same day

Questions I hear a lot

If you have a different one,
just email me.

I read every single one myself — [email protected]

Isn't AARP Fraud Watch good enough?

AARP Fraud Watch is excellent. I recommend it to every neighbor I meet. They publish alerts, run hotlines, and host free educational events — there's one at the Sun City West library a few times a year. If you haven't signed up, you should.

Here's what AARP can't do, that I can:

  • Look at your specific email setup and tell you what's risky
  • Sit with you while you change your password so you don't get stuck
  • Answer your specific question at 9 PM on a Sunday
  • Send you alerts about scams hitting this neighborhood this month
  • Show you the safe way to handle a pop-up on your screen, not in a slideshow

AARP is the public library. I'm the librarian who knows your name.

Use both. That's what I'd tell my own mother to do.

Do I need to know anything about computers to start?
Not a thing. If you can turn it on and check your email, you're more than ready. I assume nothing and explain everything.
What if I have questions after I buy?
You can email me anytime, and I answer them all myself — usually the same day. No call centers. No "press 1 for English." Just Pete.
Is it hard to access the course after I buy?
After your purchase you'll get an email with a single button. Click it. That's the whole process. If something goes sideways, email me and I'll walk you through it personally.
What if I don't love the course?
Email me within 30 days and I'll refund you. No quiz, no guilt trip. I'd rather have your trust than your $79.
What if I want to cancel the Scam Alert subscription?
One scam avoided pays for it for a lifetime. But if you don't love it, cancel with one click. I'd rather you cancel than feel stuck.
Where do you do house calls?

Right here in the West Valley — Sun City, Sun City West, Sun City Grand, Surprise, and Peoria. I open up a few spots each month. If the calendar shows fully booked, the course is the next best thing — same content, just from your favorite chair.

For Adult Children & Grandchildren

You can't always be there.
This helps bridge the gap.

If you have a parent, grandparent, or loved one in the West Valley — and you worry about scams — this page is for you.

They won't always call you when something feels wrong.

Maybe they don't want to worry you. Maybe they're embarrassed. Maybe they just don't know what's a real threat and what isn't. So they click. They call the number. They buy the gift cards.

What they need isn't someone to do it for them — they're smart, capable adults. What they need is someone to teach them how to recognize danger, in plain English, without making them feel small.

That's Pete. A retired neighbor, right here in Sun City, who's been through it himself and built the resource he wished had existed.

"The best gift you can give them isn't doing it for them. It's making sure they understand it themselves."
